Olympus SuperZoom 3000

If there is one thing about me that most people know, I love thrift shopping. I will forever curse the names of American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, TikTok, etc, as they have introduced the masses to the joys of pre-owned items.

Some of my fondest memories growing up were going to tag sales (garage sales, yard sales, estate sales, flea markets) with my father. I would consider him a real man of trash collector of items. Our garage was what could only be described as the garage of a crazy man. It was like peaks and valleys, Different piles of like items on the floor with many circuitous paths going between them. Need random mechanical items? What about old technology? Very obscure tool? We even had a moose head in the corner of the garage, got that one from some guy in New York. Suffice to day, “Junk“ was a big part of my life.

There was an old church by me growing up that had a sale of donated items every year in September. I remember hopping in my father Red Truck at the time and taking a drive with him to go check out the sale. They had all kinds My father has a predilection for used clothes. He is the type of man to wear something until its in tatters. Because of this, he feels quite passionate about used clothing, as he is giving them a second chance at life. This year in particular, I remember he found a pair of grey acid wash jeans. They were already filled with paint and varnish stains. The bottom of the pant legs had started to fray, revealing a white white inside. To this day, he still has that pair of jeans, albeit a few more holes and stains have joined the collage.

All this to say, I still frequent Thrift stores and Tag sales. Recently I found a Olympus SuperZoom 3000 at a thrift store for $5. Quite frankly, at that price, not buying it would be wasting money. Now I don’t consider myself a Photographer, but I have always liked film cameras. I decided Upon leaving the store, I headed to the nearest CVS to grab a roll of Fujifilm 400 and some batteries. To my surprise, this camera took a battery that I was unfamiliar with, a 3v 123 Lithium battery. Once I was able to secure the battery, I excitedly loaded up the camera with some film. I snapped a photo of my cat, but remembered that I had a trip to Seattle coming up, so I decided to save the roll for that.

The trip was absolutely lovely, I spent some time with my girlfriend’s Family. Washington State is an absolutely lovely place. I am genuinely blown away every time I visit, as I am a absolute nature hooligan genuinely love nature. I believe that the woods are my happy place, I just want to be hanging in a stream somewhere touching moss. That’s the dream.

Below are a few of my favorite shots from the trip. I did notice that the Olympus SuperZoom has a slight issue at night. A few of the photos that I had taken at night really did not come out, which I was bummed about, but what can you do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I will for sure be using this camera again. It has a really nice texture to the photos, which I enjoy thoroughly. I seem to lack the correct technical terms to describe photos I am just now realizing. To those who happen to come across this camera, I would really suggest you pick it up.
